Cashmere Closets and a Giveaway

SAMSUNG CSC

Hey ladies (and gentleman)! I’m excited to finally tell you about my latest pet project. Since my last post I’ve been busy working on a consignment business with my mom. I LOVE consignment, it’s such a great way to score nice clothing and designer brands for a cheap price. The last time I went to a consignment shop I got an Alexander Wang tee for about $20. I’d never pay full price for a designer t-shirt but $20 was doable and I love it (it’s neutral and edgy at the same time) and I wear it all the time. One of my all-time favorite consignment store finds was a gorgeous burgundy wrap coat that I scored for about 1/3 of the retail price. I can’t wait to pull it out again in the fall.

Since my Mom and I both love consignment stores (and we had a lot of clothing to get rid of in order to streamline our capsule wardrobes a la “Lessons from Madame Chic”) we decided to start a business that would make consigning accessible and fun. Our business is called Cashmere Closets, and it functions in 2 ways: we have seasonal consignment parties where people can consign clothing and accessories and also shop while they sip wine and eat yummy snacks. We also have an online store now- check it out here. The online store contains a lot of new items that we just got in (including some designer items) and everything has been checked for quality. We’ll be adding more items as well.  In honor of a grand opening that we had recently, we’re also offering 15% off using code Grandopening at checkout and a giveaway for a $25 gift certificate to the online store. The giveaway is open to everyone in the US and internationally (we ship internationally) and the gift certificate can be used towards any item on the site . Check it out here and enter now 🙂  You can also follow Cashmere Closets on facebook here.

Thanks for reading and look out for my next post!

How to Dress Like Rachel Zane from Suits

suits_charactergallery_rachel_02

I love Suits for it’s amazing work fashion. Every character has an amazing sense of style and a covetable work wardrobe. Like I’ve said before, no matter what your profession there’s lots of great fashion inspiration on Suits for work. Rachel Zane (Meghan Markle) is  a paralegal on the show Suits who befriends and then dates the show’s protagonist, Mike Ross. She has plans to eventually become a lawyer at her firm, and wants to do so without the help of her father who is a famous trial attorney. I would describe Rachel’s style as sexy office chic. Women who work in conservative offices probably couldn’t get away with some of the tops that she wears. However anyone can take inspiration from the way that she mixes classic pieces and adds a more youthful edge to them.  Here’s how to dress like Rachel Zane:

Combine V-Neck Shirts and Sweaters with Pencil Skirts

Suits

002

This is Rachel’s go to office look.  Her  tops pair well with her classic pencil skirts and pumps but the v-neck silhouette gives her outfits a sexier, less conservative vibe. The women in Suits can get away with a lot. In real life this is a great combo for a business casual office  as long as the neckline isn’t too low, and your skirt is not too form fitting.

Wear Classic Button Down Shirts with Rolled Sleeves

A button down and pencil skirt will always be a timeless, professional office look. Rachel looks classic but stylish by rolling up her sleeves and letting the edges poke up just a bit.

Wear Shift Dresses with Interesting Details

How to Dress Like Abby Whelan from Scandal

tumblr_mr0nu9aNmU1rw6xlno3_250

I’ve done a couple of posts so far highlighting Olivia Pope’s style from Scandal (a fall shopping guide based on her style and a tv fashion recap) but she’s certainly not the only stylish character on that show. Abby Whelan (Darby Stanchfield)  in particular seems to have gotten a wardrobe and hair update in the current season and she looks great.  I love some of her classic ensembles, cozy knits, and rich fall hues. Here’s how to achieve Abby’s work style:

Wear Rich Fall Hues and Neutrals

tumblr_mr0nu9aNmU1rw6xlno2_250

Abby wears a lot of rich colors like plum, navy, and burgundy that compliment her red hair. These rich shades can be universally flattering, especially on fall knits and workwear. When she’s not in rich fall colors she’s usually in neutrals like black and grey which are always classic.

How to Edit Your Closet

If you often find yourself in the frustrating position of having a closet full of nothing to wear, or you want to make room for fabulous new pieces, the solution could be a closet edit. Many stylists believe streamlining your wardrobe and editing your closet  so that you actually have less clothing can make a world of difference in your style choices. We can make stylish decisions more easily if our brains have less clothing (that shouldn’t be there) to process in the morning. Here’s a few tips for successfully editing your closet:

Consider Your Best Silhouettes

Screen-Shot-2012-09-02-at-8.16.26-PM

It’s important to carefully consider what works for you and what doesn’t in your wardrobe. A good place to start is to consider which items flatter your figure the best. Check out my post on essential items for your body type for a little inspiration.

And Your Best Colors

color-wheel-300

Also consider your best colors because you don’t want to wear pieces that wash you out or fail to flatter your skin tone and hair color. Check out my recent post on How to Find 3 of Your Best Colors for Fall for more inspiration.

Get Rid of as Much as You Can!

Screen Shot 2013-10-21 at 10.18.00 PM

  • If you haven’t worn it in the last year, get rid of it immediately (donate to a thrift store or good will if the item is in decent condition or throw it away if it’s not. If this is hard for you, just remember that you’re not a pack rat, and these are just things that can be replaced later by items you’ll actually wear).
  • If you have clothes or shoes that need to be repaired, fix them now or get rid of them. Don’t let these items collect dust in your closet.
  • Get rid of clothes that no longer fit. Dress well for the body that you have right now.
  • Try hanging up as many items as possible instead of folding them. This allows you to really see what you have.
  • Get rid of the really trendy pieces that are no longer in style. The most wearable wardrobe will be one that’s full of mostly timeless, classic pieces. Limit the number of trendy pieces in your main wardrobe but keeps lots of fun/trendy accessories around to switch things up.

Organize

Screen Shot 2013-10-21 at 10.21.04 PM

Organize your clothing in the way that makes it easiest for you to put outfits together. This can be by category (shirts, pants, dresses, etc.), by color, or by occasion (office wear, casual /weekend items, cocktail party, etc.).

How to Find 3 of YOUR Best Colors for Fall

Last March I did a post on how to find 3 of your best individual colors for spring. Today I’ve updated that post for fall:

Many stylists believe we all look best in the colors that compliment our specific hair color, eye color, and the undertones of our skin.  If you want to know your best work neutral, date color, and color to invest in for fall, follow the steps below based on the seasonal color analysis (Don’t worry, you’ll be skipping around, not reading every step).

1. If your hair is black or dark brown go on to number two.

If you hair is light to golden blonde skip to number three.

If your hair is strawberry blonde or light brown skip to number four.

If your hair is medium brown or rich red skip to number five.

If your hair ashy brown, ashy red, platinum blonde, or grey skip to number six.

2. If your eyes are black, brown, dark green, or dark hazel, skip to number seven.

If your eyes are blue, blue-green, bright green, light hazel, or amber skip to number eight.

3. If you have blue, light green, or light hazel eyes skip to number nine.

If you have dark green, brown, or dark hazel eyes go on to number four.

4. If your skin has warm undertones (i.e. brown or golden tones)  your best colors are revealed at number ten.

If your skin has cool undertones (i.e. deep brown or delicate pink tones) your best colors are revealed at number eleven.

5. If your skin has warm undertones (i.e. brown or golden tones) your best colors are revealed at number twelve.

If your skin has cool undertones (i.e. deep brown or delicate pink tones) your best colors are revealed at number thirteen.

6. If your skin has cool undertones (i.e. deep brown or delicate pink tones) your best colors are revealed at number fourteen.

If your skin has soft, ashy undertones your best colors are revealed at number 15.

7. If your skin has warm undertones (i.e. brown or golden tones) your best colors are revealed at number sixteen.

If your skin has cool undertones (i.e. deep brown or delicate pink tones) your best colors are revealed at number seventeen.

8. If your skin has warm undertones (i.e. brown or golden tones) your best colors are revealed at number eighteen.

If your skin has cool undertones (i.e. deep brown or delicate pink tones) your best colors are revealed at number nineteen.

9. If your skin has warm undertones (i.e. brown or golden tones) your best colors are revealed at number twenty.

If your skin has cool undertones (i.e. deep brown or delicate pink tones) your best colors are revealed at number twenty-one.

10. Invest in brown for work, purple for dates, and camel for fall.
