Lately I’ve seen a lot of makeup and skincare companies putting out BB and CC creams. I wondered for a while what these were (some kind of super primer? Just a marketing gimmick?) so I did some research and came up with a general guide for those of you who, like me, want to know what these products actually do, and for those of you who are simply looking to invest in a new BB or CC Cream.
What is BB Cream?
The bottom line- A tinted cream that’s lighter than foundation and heavier than tinted moisturizer, that also acts as a moisturizer, primer, and sunscreen.
BB stands for beauty balm or blemish balm. The purpose of a BB cream is to replace several of the makeup products you use the most with one simple product. This is perfect for a busy woman on the go who needs to save time by simplifying her makeup and skincare routine in the morning. It can be worn alone for light coverage or worn under foundation as a primer.
What are the drawbacks? Some BB Creams aren’t as great at moisturizing as others, and right now most come in a very limited range of shades.
What is CC Cream?
The bottom line- The newer and usually more improved version of the BB Cream.
CC stands for color correcting. CC creams have the same uses as BB creams (moisturizing, sun protection, and priming) but offer better coverage for uneven skin tones than BB Creams. CC creams also generally have a lighter texture.
What are the drawbacks? CC creams also come in a limited range of shades right now (but can be worn under your regular foundation).
